After four years of negotiations and nearly 100 public meetings, the Palo Alto City Council will vote Monday night on the final approvals for what's being called a "historic investment" in modern medical facilities at Stanford University Medical Center and the largest project of any kind in the city in more than 50 years.

Specifically, the council is expected to approve the project's final environmental report, grant land-use approvals and execute a development agreement with Stanford Hospital & Clinics, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and Stanford University for its much-anticipated Renewal Project.

The expansion project includes approximately 1.3 million square feet of new space, including a complete rebuild of Stanford Hospital and an expansion of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

The project, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, has an approximate completion date of 2025.

Leadership from Stanford Hospital and Stanford University's School of Medicine, board members and members of the public are expected to speak on behalf of the Renewal Project at Monday night's meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave. The Stanford project is on the agenda for 7 p.m.
