Gang War on the Streets of EPA
Several police agencies are pooling their efforts to stop the violence.
With four shootings in East Palo Alto in a week you may have wondered what’s going on. The answer is simple—a gang war is underway.
A gang in East Palo Alto is battling one from Menlo Park.
The violence sparked over the summer and has continued to intensify. It’s attracted a multi-agency response including police departments, the sheriff’s office, and gang and narcotics task forces. The Palo Alto Police Department is a participant in the task force.

"Operation SMART" (Strategic Multi-Agency Response Team) will use targeted patrols to crack-down on the gangs and drug trafficking. It will also involve outreach in an effort to draw members out of the gangs, according to the Palo Alto Daily News.
A community meeting will be held in Menlo Park on Dec. 18 to reassure jittery residents.
