Gunman Robs Palo Alto Credit Union

He's still on the loose. Do you recognize the suspect from the surveillance photos?

 

A man armed with a handgun robbed the Provident Credit Union on El Camino Real in Palo Alto Wednesday afternoon. No one was injured. The robber has not been caught.

Police received an alarm from the bank at 3:36 p.m. Officers arrived a few minutes later but were unable to find him.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the credit union, displayed a black

handgun to the tellers, and demanded money,” Detective Sergeant Brian Philip said in a prepared statement. “The tellers complied with his demand, and the suspect fled on foot. Witnesses last saw the suspect headed northbound on the sidewalk of El Camino Real near the intersection with Cambridge Avenue.”

Police did not disclose how much money he got.

The robber wore a white cap with writing on it, a tan shirt, a tan jacket and flip flops.  He carried a bright yellow plastic bag with the “Forever 21” logo on it.

He has a scar near his right eye.

This is the second time in a week that someone has been threatened with a gun in Palo Alto. Last Saturday night a woman was carjacked at gunpoint. Two teens have been arrested for that crime.

The last credit union robbery in Palo Alto happened last year. No arrests have been announced in that case.
