Both of the accused, Amador Valentin Rivera, 18, of East Palo Alto and a 16-year-old juvenile who splits his time between residences in Oakland and Menlo Park, were arrested on Jan. 5 when police allege that they committed a carjacking using a realistic-looking BB gun in the 100 block of California Avenue.

Rivera has been in jail since that arrest, but the juvenile was booked into juvenile hall and subsequently released. According to Det. Sgt. Brian Philip, Palo Alto Police Department, “Detectives arrested the juvenile for one count of robbery (a felony, for the liquor store robbery) on the morning of Friday, February 15, 2013, at his school in Oakland. Police took the juvenile to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall... Police served (an arrest) warrant on Rivera while he was still in custody on Monday, February 25, 2013.”

No one was injured in the liquor store robbery.

“Detectives are continuing to investigate a series of six street robberies dating back to Dec. 2, five of which have occurred in the downtown area,” according to Philip. “Currently, it is not known if Rivera or the juvenile are associated with any of those crimes.”
