Stanford Student Goes Missing in Malaysia

Jacob Boehm, a debate coach at Paly, has been missing since Sunday.

A Stanford music student traveling in Malaysia has disappeared, prompting friends and family to launch a Facebook campaign to seek help.

Jacob Neil Boehm, 22, who also coaches debate at Paly, was last seen traveling in Jerantut, Pahang District, Malaysia on Sunday, Aug. 14, according to a Facebook page set up by his friends.

His parents, Nancy Luberoff and Bruce Boehm, confirmed to the Stanford Daily that reports of their son being missing are accurate.

Jacob has been updating an online map while traveling throughout the region from small town to small town, immersing himself in local culture and volunteering in areas ravaged by the tsunami, his parents told the Daily. He is 5-foot-11, thin, with curly brown hair and eyeglasses.

He has also posted regularly on his Google+ page, where his most recent post, on Aug. 10, depicted photographs from a Thai school where volunteered.

Jacob was traveling with U.S. and German passports, and his parents have filed a missing person case both the U.S. and German embassies in Malaysia, according to the Facebook page.
