Peninsula Bike Party To Ride on Facebook History Tour

Peninsula Bike Party welcomes Facebook to Menlo Park with a bike tour of the company's former and current office locations this Friday night.

Peninsula Bike Party is a monthly night-time urban social bike ride that meets every 4th Friday of the month. It's free and everyone's welcome.

Previous rides that have passed through Menlo Park included December's , October's , and September's .

This month's ride will celebrate Facebook's move to Menlo Park with a Facebook History Tour - a bike tour of Facebook's former and current office locations through Palo Alto and Menlo Park.

The ride will start from Lytton Plaza in downtown Palo Alto (University Ave & Emerson St) at 7:30 pm, on Friday, January 27, 2012.

That's where Facebook leased its first "normal" offices - downtown Palo Alto. After expanding to 10 different offices buildings in downtown Palo Alto between 2004 and 2009, Facebook moved to 1601 California Ave in 2009 and 1050 Page Mill Rd in 2010, both located in the Stanford Research Park. Facebook quickly outgrew those buildings and finished relocating to the former Sun Microsystems Campus at 1601 Willow Rd, Menlo Park just before Christmas 2011.

The ride's total distance is 16 miles on flat terrian. It'll be dark, especially out near the Menlo Park Facebook Campus, so be sure to bring all your favorite bike lights!

In addition to visiting Facebook past and current offices, the route will also pass by two of Palo Alto's recent innovative bicycle improvements - the and . The ride will also visit the new Ringwood Ave Bike Bridge over Highway 101, currently under construction.

If you use Facebook, you can join the Peninsula Bike Party group by clicking here and check out the ride's Event Page here. If not, no problem, just come along for the ride this Friday night.

Everyone's welcome!

Are you going to be the official bike party tour guide, Andrew?
Andrew Boone January 25, 2012 at 08:35 AM
Yes, I will be one of several of the ride's leaders. Look for me on my sweet Schwinn/Raleigh tall bike. It's 6-ft tall and has a big "Peninsula Bike Party" sign on it.

You modified it! Very cool. Are Tom and Romain coming?
Andrew Boone January 26, 2012 at 08:56 AM
Yes, I invited them both (and 50 other people I know) via email. Should be a pretty good turnout. On today's Test Ride a guy saw me riding and said "whoa! I have a tall bike too!" We invited him to the ride and he said he'd join and ride his tall bike! I hope he shows - that would be so sweet.
