Bowman International School Hosts Free Education Seminar on Feb. 3

Bowman International School (located at 4000 Terman Dr. in Palo Alto) is hosting a free community education seminar on Monday, Feb. 3, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Steven J. Hughes, a child development expert and past president of the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology.  Dr. Hughes will discuss  “Why 20th Century Education Techniques Won't Work in the 21st Century and What We Can Do About It” and will answer questions from the audience.

His presentation will focus on the adult lives of today’s children who will not be tied to a single job, employer, or even industry, and will experience career paths that were previously unimaginable. In contrast to this future, Dr. Hughes believes current trends in education focus on rigid control, high-stakes academic testing, and limited school curricula so children do not have the opportunity to develop the broad-based problem identification and problem-solving skills necessary for happy, productive, interesting lives. Dr. Hughes will highlight how the Montessori approach provides the best education to meet the needs for success, happiness, leadership and progress in the world of the 21st century.
