Kids get into the act at Intersession Shakespeare Camp!

Enrollment at Burlingame’s Intersession Shakespeare Camp, April 14-25, is in full swing!

Intersession Camp replicates our summer sessions and is scheduled to accommodate students (ages 7-13) on a year-round academic calendar, as well as home schoolers. It meets at Burlingame United Methodist Church, 1443 Howard Avenue, weekdays 9:00 am - 3:00 pm with optional aftercare until 5:30 pm.

Campers at this session will perform in a production of The Tempest or Prosperos Revels (the magical play-within-a-play found in The Tempest). They'll create their own version of Prospero's magical island, and bring the humour and adventure of this enchanted tale to life - for the audience as well as themselves. Just a few of the fun and exciting roles include the sprite Ariel, the clowns Stephano and Trinculo, the slave Caliban, and of course the magician Prospero.

The outstanding teaching artists at this session are Radhika Rao and Sarah David. Radhika trained at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she focused on theatre. She has over 10 years of experience teaching hundreds of children and believes the teaching of theatre also imparts life-skills such as confidence, empathy, cooperation, leadership, imagination, creative and critical thinking. Sarah's work ranges from Shakespeare through contemporary drama to musicals, film and aerial dance. She is a voiceover artist and member of the creative staff of Antenna Theater, where she helped to create Magic Bus. Teaching Shakespeare to children is a highlight of the year for her!

Experience is welcome but not required! Those who have acted before will hone and develop their skills; newcomers will enjoy the thrill of their first performance!

Shakespeare camp provides training in:

  • Shakespeare’s rich language
  • Acting and improvisation
  • Voice and movement technique
  • Stage combat
  • Set and costume design and more!
