Caltrain Explains Hours of Delay Monday Morning

With the second highest ridership on the commuter rail, Palo Alto passengers felt the inconvenience.

Mechanical problems on Caltrain this morning caused delays for about five hours, spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

The delays began around 6 a.m. when the speedometer on one train wasn't working so Caltrain officials had to use different equipment, she said.

Then at about 8:45 a.m., there was a problem with the brakes on another train, which caused additional delays.

Caltrain had even more delays at about 10:50 a.m. due to a trespasser who was in a tunnel in San Francisco, she said.

"It was a difficult morning for our passengers, so of course we would like to apologize for any difficulties we caused to them," Dunn said.

The delays ended at 11:30 a.m.
