Firefighters' Food-Truck Filipino Fundraiser -- Today!

Sam's Chowder Mobile and Chutney Mary's will be at the San Jose lunchtime event -- from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- to benefit typhoon victims.

A food-truck fundraiser benefit is set today at the San Jose Fire Department Training Center to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

The event will be from 11 a.m and 2 p.m. at 255 S. Montgomery St., and is a collaboration between San Jose firefighters, Project PEARLS, Los Bomberos of Northern California, San Jose Fire Museum and FilAm San Jose Firefighters.

Some of the trucks expected:

  • Cluck It Up
  • Blast Off
  • Tastee Bytes
  • Smothered
  • Treatbot
Also on tap, SJFD Urban Search and Rescue demonstrations, a silent auction of autographed sports gear and tickets, plus the San Jose Fire Museum's fire rigs on display, along with the Sharks Fire Engine.

The organizers said: "We would like to invite everyone in the community. We know that the holidays are tight on people's schedules. However, we need all the help we can get for this wonderful cause."

"Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) has hit the Philippines and Tacloban is the hardest hit. Your local firefighter Darrel Poblete went to school in that town. His sister is in the Philippines right now helping with medical needs."
