Help Restore Palo Alto Baylands
Volunteers are needed by Save The Bay to plant native seedlings.
The heavy rains that we’ve had are great news for Save The Bay, a nonprofit organization that strives to protect and restore San Francisco Bay. The group plans to plant 30,000 native seedlings at five sites around the Bay and our storms have loosened the soil for volunteers.
Special attention is being given to sensitive areas around tidal marshes.
“Re-establishing native plants in this "transition zone" is important because the plants provide refuge and habitat for endangered species including the California clapper rail and salt marsh harvest mouse,” Vanessa Barrington, PR Manager for Save the Bay said in a written statement. In addition, they “help filter pollutants; serve as buffers during storms and high tide events; and counter invasive species that threaten the health of our wetlands.”

You never know, the world could end in five days and you may never get the chance to plant again. Just in case the Mayan’s prediction proves false, we’re going to continue working towards our goal of planting 30,000 plants this season. Since we’re pretty sure we are still going to be here in 2013, this is your last opportunity to get plants in the ground before the New Year. We need your help to start this new era of restoration.
