Help Save the Bay this Weekend
Volunteers are needed to help restore sensitive areas around tidal marshes.
If you're looking for ways to improve the environment, roll up your sleeves and help restore the baylands.
Save The Bay, a nonprofit organization that strives to protect and restore San Francisco Bay, is in the process of planting 30,000 native seedlings at five sites around the Bay.

“Re-establishing native plants in this "transition zone" is important because the plants provide refuge and habitat for endangered species including the California clapper rail and salt marsh harvest mouse,” Vanessa Barrington, PR Manager for Save the Bay said in a written statement. In addition, they “help filter pollutants; serve as buffers during storms and high tide events; and counter invasive species that threaten the health of our wetlands.”
Save the Bay has three projects scheduled at Palo Alto Baylands this month:

Teeming with great egrets, canvasbacks, godwits, willets, black-necked stilts, and long-billed curlews the San Francisco Bay is the perfect place to celebrate National Bird Day! Volunteering at Faber Tract near the Palo Alto Baylands this weekend means you are helping to restore wetlands that provide essential habitat to millions of birds that migrate along the Pacific Flyway. By helping us plant their favorite native species you provide shelter, food, and nesting materials to get them through winter’s rainy days.

Native seedlings provide essential habitat to many threatened and endangered species such as the California clapper rail and the salt marsh harvest mouse, so let’s do our best to restore their precious habitat and provide them a nice warm home for winter!

Come celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. at Palo Alto Baylands by helping to build a better wetland for us all!
