Hey, Youse Guys! Goof Off and Take This Quiz!

Sneakers? Or tennis shoes? Quiz accurately pinpoints dialects from around the U.S.

A quiz in Sunday's The New York Times has gone viral as participants are repeatedly floored at the accuracy of IDing a person's place of upbringing based on such questions as: "Fireflies?" or "Lightning bugs?"

The quiz is so popular, in fact, the Times page now warns that the end-result map is slowed due to an overwhelming numbers of readers.

To see if you have a distinctive regional way of speaking, follow this link:

According to the Times story: "Most of the questions used in this quiz are based on those in the Harvard Dialect Survey, a linguistics project begun in 2002 by Bert Vaux and Scott Golder. The original questions and results for that survey can be found on Dr. Vaux's current website."
