Palo Alto Firefighters Work For Charity

They were out in force recently, at the El Camino Real and Embarcadero, fighting Muscular Dystrophy, not fires.

There was nothing to fear though. It was all for a good cause.

The firefighters were out in force asking for donations in their "Fill the Boot" event to help raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The event raised a total of $13,855.02, the most successful year yet for the Palo Alto crew.

All the money stays in the community and goes toward Support Groups, Multidisciplinary clinics, research, repairs for wheelchairs and leg braces, and to send local children to MDA Summer Camp.

Peet's Coffee and The Old Pro donated lunch and beverages.

The International Association of Fire Fighters is the largest national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Palo Alto Fire Department is hosting a family-themed movie, "Toy Story 3," on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2 (2675 Hanover Street).

It's an opportunity to share quality time with family and firefighters. Popcorn will also be provided. The admission is free, but please bring your own blankets, pillows or chairs.
