Palo Alto Shelter Dogs and Cats Available for $12 Adoption Through Dec. 31

Local agency is among six in Santa Clara County lowering fees to find homes for more than 1,300 animals.

Palo Alto Animal Services is among six shelters in Santa Clara County that have lowered their adoption fees this month as part of the annual "Home for the Holidays" program.

Six shelters in the county have lowered their fees for most adoptions, which normally range from $90 to $120, to $12 for any adult cat or dog, according to Albert Escobar with Santa Clara County Animal Control.

The $12 fee covers all benefits such as spay or neuter surgery, microchip implantation and registration, vaccinations, defleaing and deworming and FIV/FeLV testing for cats.

The shelters hope to find homes for more than 1,300 animals by New Year's Eve. The program runs through Dec. 31.

Palo Alto Animal Services, 3281 E. Bayshore Road, is open for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, except for holidays, and closed every other Friday. See its Facebook page here.

Other participating shelters are listed here.
