Palo Alto Themed Art For Sale by Student Entrepreneur's Club

The Entrepreneur's Club of the Palo Alto Housing Corporation sets up shop.

Seventeen students residents of the Palo Alto Housing Corporation will be selling merchandise for several weeks this summer downtown.

The goal is to teach the kids between the ages of 11 and 13 entrepreneurship, team-building and financial literacy skills, according to program director Jocelyn Harrison.

"We are selling posters, wooden boards, tote bags, t-shirts with designs," said 11-year-old Ozzie Garcia.

This Wednesday, July 10th was the first day of their business. The student will be at All Saints Episcopal Church until 4:30 p.m., and again Thursday from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m.

"These are original one-of-a-kind design," said Tati Taylor, 11. "Because we've made them with our hands and worked together to make them."

Kate Young, director of resident services at Palo Alto Housing, said that all kids who apply are chosen to participate. She's grateful to the program sponsors like Ace Hardware who donated paint. Also All Saints Episcopal Church and Whole Foods have invited them to set up their "pop-up" shop.

Also, for the past two years the Wells Fargo Foundation has given the Entrepreneur's Club a grant. Last year's group developed a babysitting club.

The summer 2013 club has named itselves Graphic Team Sticky Fingers.

"And not because of stealing, but because of the paint we get on our fingers," said Patricia Valbuena, 12.

At the end of the eight week program the student get to decide what to do with the proceeds.

"Save it, give it to charity or split it 17 ways," said Jazmine Johnson Jackson, 13.
