Project PEARLS Sets Philippines Donation Site Tuesday at SJSU
Local group is asking for non-perishable food and healthcare supplies.
Peninsula-based charity Project PEARLS is organizing a drop-off site Tuesday at San Jose State University for donations for victims of Friday's deadly Typhoon Haiyan in the central Philippines.
Collections will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of university's Event Center, said Francesca Villa Mateo, co-founder of Project PEARLS, a not-for-profit organization that serves poor children in the Philippines.
She said her group, with assistance from five campus organizations, is seeking donations of new, unopened goods, namely:
- Non-perishable food items.
- Toiletries, such as soap, feminine products and shampoo.
- Baby and infant supplies, diapers and wipes, formula, new bottles.
- Medical supplies -- items that would be used in First Aid kits.
