Saturday’s Marsh Madness Will Benefit Youth Programs

It's not too late to sign up for Marsh Madness—from a 5K walk/run to a half marathon.

The Sixth Annual Marsh Madness will be held this Saturday at Palo Alto Baylands. The event benefits local youth programs, raises awareness for childhood obesity and promotes healthy lifestyles. The event is co-sponsored by by the Palo Alto Family YMCA and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with the Half Marathon. For serious runners, Marsh Madness is part of the Palo Alto Grand Prix Series and is a professionally timed event on a USA Track
and Field certified course.

The Half Marathon is followed at 9 a.m. by a 10K race. The 5K Run kicks off at 9:20, followed by the 5K Walk at 9:25.

After the event, participants and the community are invited to the post-race expo with vendors, live music from dance/party band Hella Good, and a food/beer garden hosted by Strike Brewing Company.

“We are so excited to enter our sixth year of bringing Marsh Madness to the community, and proving that it is a viable fitness event,” said Nettie Azoulay, senior program director of healthy lifestyles at the
Y. “We are thrilled and grateful to all of our partners and sponsors who understand the significance of this fundraising event, as it allows us to raise money and awareness for growing youth health
challenges, one of the biggest issues being childhood obesity.”
