Nature has such a sense of humor. After days a beautiful sunshine, Spring has officially arrived along with drippy weather.

Today marks the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere and the first day of Spring.

Our mild winter has resulted in below-normal rainfall and bright bursts of daffodils and flowering trees.

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting generally pleasant, spring weather across California in the coming months, with a chance of showers the first and third weeks of April.

The equinox means more daylight, warmer temperatures and the rebirth of flora and fauna, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night,” according to the almanac. Days and nights are approximately equal, and the sun rises and sets due east and west.

Spring also means Easter is right around the corner (March 31) and vegetable garden-planting time has almost arrived.

Spring will last three months until June 21, and summer will carry on until the autumnal equinox on Sept. 22 at 4:44 p.m, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
