Five fun, kid-friendly activities going on in Palo Alto and the surrounding areas over the next week.

OCEAN WONDERS CAMP DAY

Where/When: , 299 S. California Ave., Palo Alto. This Friday, June 17, 2-4 p.m.

Why Go: The perfect summer activity to keep your young ones busy for the next few Fridays. Each Friday has a different theme. This Friday, it's "Ocean Wonders"-- craft projects involving fishes and bubbles, singing songs at the bottom of the sea, and movement as mermaids, octopus, and jellyfish. Fun, imaginative play! Moms can bring a book or laptop and enjoy some quiet time on site.

BABYSITTER TRAINING COURSE

Where/When: , 400 Mitchell Lane, Palo Alto. This Sunday, June 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Is your pre-teen or teen looking for a way to make a little spending money this summer? Enroll them in this course by the Red Cross, and he or she will be the best-trained babysitter on your block this summer! Your child will learn all the skills necessary to care for infants and young children, including rescue breathing, first aid for choking, first aid for bleeding, and basic care for infants and small children, such as diapering, proper holding and feeding. Ages 11 to 15 are welcome. There will be a break for lunch, students should bring a sack lunch.

MIDSUMMER CONCERT

Where/When: Hidden Villa, 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. This Saturday, June 18, 5:30-8 p.m.

Why Go: Bring the whole family and enjoy a midsummer concert by the Livewire Dance Band, performing family-friendly, high-energy music. Farm-fresh salads and sandwiches will be for sale. Parking is available at Foothill College.

FLYING SKELETONS INTERACTIVE PLAY

Where/When: Portola Valley Library, 765 Portola Road, Portola Valley. This Thursday, June 16, 4:30-5:15 p.m.

Why Go: Expose your child to the culture of live theater, and have fun at the same time--because this is a show where the audience is asked to put on costumes and play a character in the show, right along with the cast! For ages 4 and up.

OUTDOOR MOVIE - 'BYE BYE, BIRDIE'

Where/When: Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway, Redwood City. At sundown, typically around 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The weather is beautiful, so grab a few portable lawn chairs and come out to Courthouse Square in Redwood City for a good, old-fashioned, outdoor, summer movie. This week, the film of choice is the musical Bye Bye, Birdie, about a teenager in the 1950s who dreams of being the lucky winner of a date with musical sensation, Conrad Birdie.
