Bike Ride to the Bay, Bluegrass Benefit Show, Farmer’s Market and More!

Five fun, kid-friendly activities going on in Palo Alto over the next week.

Where/When: Starting at Hope Technology School, 2525 E. Bayshore Road, Palo Alto. This Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Get a little exercise, enjoy the fresh air, and support a great local school, all at the same time. The “Bike to Bay” ride starts at Hope Technology School in Palo Alto and heads out to the Palo Alto Baylands Preserve. Family members of all ages are invited to bike, scooter, rollerblade or walk. All proceeds from the participation fee support Hope Technology School.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY BLUEGRASS BENEFIT CONCERT

Where/When: Spangenberg Theater at , 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. This Friday, May 13, 7-10 p.m. (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

Why Go: This event promises to be a rockin’ good time, that family members of all ages can enjoy. Plus, all the proceeds go to a great cause—Juana Briones Elementary School in Palo Alto. The night’s lineup will include bluegrass acts Laurie Lewis & The Right Hands, The Tuttles with A. J. Lee, and Snap Jackson & The Knock On Wood Players. The concert is sponsored by the Northern California Bluegrass Society.

Pricing: Tickets range from $10-65. Center orchestra seats are on sale at the store, 211 Lambert Ave. in Palo Alto.

 

THE DOWNTOWN PALO ALTO FARMER’S MARKET

Where/When: Gilman Street and Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto. Weekly on Saturdays from now through December, 8 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: The Downtown Farmer’s Market is back! Strap the little ones into a stroller or baby carrier, grab your reusable bags, and bring plenty of cash. The Downtown Farmer’s Market features fresh produce from a wealth of local farmers, and live music to get the toes tapping. Little ones will love to munch on juicy samples of luscious strawberries, oranges and the like,while watching the live musicians, and Mom and Dad will love to get their produce shopping done while dreaming up fresh new dishes to cook at home. Plus, you just can’t beat the new wave of amazing weather in Palo Alto now that spring is here, so get outdoors and enjoy it!

Pricing: Admission is free, but bring plenty of cash if you plan to buy, as most farmer’s market vendors accept cash only.

 

RUSSIAN-AMERICAN FAIR

Where/When: , 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. This Sunday, May 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: This event has something for everyone! Delicious, exotic food and vodka tastings, live music and dance performances, arts and crafts, face painting, inflatable obstacle courses, and much, much more. Bring the whole family, and spend a day having fun while learning about the culture of Russia.

Pricing: Free admission to the fair, but there is a small cost for some of the live performances taking place in the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall.

 

MILESTONES PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: Milestones Preschool, 3864 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. This Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Thinking about preschool for your little one, but not sure if your child is ready? Why not bring your child to a free playdate and open house at Milestones Preschool in Palo Alto? Children are welcome to come explore and play, while Mom and Dad get a personal tour of the school and facilities, as well as the chance to meet the faculty and the parents of many current students, who will be happy to share their experiences at the school with you.
