Cheer Camp, Storytime, Teens on the Green, Corvettes and More!

Five fun, kid-friendly activities going on in Palo Alto and the surrounding areas over the next week.

Where/When: , 50 Embarcadero Road. This Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 17-19, -4 p.m.

Why Go: Do you have a little one who dreams of being a cheerleader? Or maybe, they just want to give it a try for one weekend to help them decide if they want to try out for the school squad? Then, sign him or her up for “Paly Cheer Camp,” this Friday to Sunday at Palo Alto High. Kindergarteners through eighth graders are invited to sign up and learn a little cheering, tumbling, stunting and dancing. Plus, all campers will get to perform in a real Paly varsity football game on Aug. 26!

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

Where/When: , 4050 Middlefield Road. Weekly on Fridays, 11-11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Is your little one gearing up for preschool soon? If you want to help get your child accustomed to sitting quietly and listening to an adult before the first day of preschool—which is coming up quickly—or, maybe you just need an idea to get out of the house this Friday, perhaps the free storytime for preschool-age children is your answer! This storytime is geared toward ages 3-5.

TEENS ON THE GREEN

Where/When: , 600 E. Meadow Dr., Palo Alto. This Saturday, 6:30-8 p.m.

Why Go: The final installment of the City’s Twilight Concert Series is this Saturday evening, and this time, it’s all about local teen talent. Come and hear original compositions by local teen musicians Hannah Allison, Caustic Ties, MDK, After Closing Time and Elana Loeb.

Pricing: Free!

 

35TH ANNUAL CORVETTE SPECTACULAR SHOW

Where/When: Third and Main streets, Los Altos. This Sunday, Aug. 21, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Who doesn’t love a good car show? Strap the kiddies in the stroller, slap on a little sunscreen and head next door to neighboring Los Altos for a good, old-fashioned Corvette show this Sunday, featuring more than 160 shiny models lining the streets as far as the eye can see. In addition to Corvette-spotting, there will be a live band, raffle prizes, vendors, and many of the local shops and restaurants will be open. There is no charge for spectators and a portion of the proceeds from Corvette owners who pay to register their cars for judging will be donated to local charities.

‘CULTURE, CRAFTS AND CURRY’ AND ‘VICTORIAN DAYS’

Where/When: Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway St., Redwood City. This Sunday, Aug. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Experience some worldly culture with the latest Family Day event in Redwood City. This Sunday, it’s all about the culture of India, with curry tastings, Bhangra music, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts and other fun for the whole family. While you’re there, stop inside the San Mateo County History Museum also located in the Square for “Victorian Days,” featuring children’s crafts and live Victorian theater performances.
