A Nation of Immigrants: A Benefit Concert

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto presents the Peninsula premiere of Henry Mollicone’s inspiring work, Misa de los Inmigrantes. Mollicone, a Bay Area composer and the Music Director of the UUCPA choir, will conduct the choir, including some members of the San Jose Symphonic Choir, and a small orchestra. A traditional mass in Spanish, the piece tells Lupe's Story with English text by Kathy Mollicone, narrated by Maria Marroquin. Based on interviews with an anonymous immigrant, it chronicles Lupe’s grueling journey from Mexico to the United States in search of a better life. This beautiful and emotional work was written as a tribute to immigrants with the hope of raising awareness of the injustices in our present immigration system. Also performing are Veronika Agranov-Dafoe, the LyriCats, Richard Heydt, Kathy Parmentier, Mayo Tsuzuki, Ted Brown, and Mike Cudahy celebrating immigrants with song and music!

Performances: Sat., Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m., and Sun., Jan. 30, 2 p.m. Suggested ticket donations: $20 in advance, $22 at the door, children up to 12 years and seniors, $15. Tickets available from choir members and at the UUCPA office. Free child care for young children. For more information, call (650) 858-8062, email music-info@uucpa.org, or visit http://www.uucpa.org.

All proceeds from the concerts will be shared between the Day Worker Center of Mountain View and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto.
