Palo Alto Art Center Re-Opens Oct. 6 with "Community Creates" Inaugural Exhibition

Ten acclaimed Bay Area artists representing as many disciplines and genres have partnered with members of the community to inspire an exhibition that explores multiple ideas of place and identity in celebration of the re-opening of the Palo Alto Art Center on October 6 following its 18-month, $7.9 million transformation. Community Creates will present compelling contemporary installations in a wide variety of media created by important emerging and established Bay Area artists. At the same time, by including community participation, the resulting artworks will offer viewers another level of meaning and engagement, through the stories and voices of their own neighbors, friends, children, colleagues and others. Artists featured in the exhibition will be Kathy Aoki, Angela Buenning Filo, Paz de la Calzada, Mel Day and Jeanne C. Finley Susan O’Malley, Anthony Discenza, Carlos Ramirez, Weston Teruya and Lava Thomas. Community Creates is featured as part of the Bay Area-wide and globally relevant 2012 ZERO1 Biennial, and is sponsored by Palantir Technologies, the world’s leading data integration and analysis platform and University Art in Palo Alto.
