Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art Exhibition: Untitled – Titled or Not
The Coastal Arts League Museum and Gallery will present works of the Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA). Untitled or title is a dilemma that many artists have for many reasons. Which is preferred: That a title is open for interpretation or that a title is descriptive and gives clues to viewers. Members chose Untitled - Titled or Not for their member exhibition that opens June 1. Each will have the freedom to be inspired by “it is mine and I will do what inspires me.” Often, theme restricts creativity. Some of the artworks in this exhibit will display titles and some will not.
The exhibition will be on view from June 1 through June 24, 2012 at the Gallery, 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay. The reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 5-7 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1-5 pm.
Francine Survilo chose Untitled for her work with clay and stain and in her statement she says “Sometimes I put water and fresh flowers in the empty space of these ceramic heads or sometimes dried weeds but most of the time it is left empty.”

Kristine Idarius and Bonnie Smith each titled their work. Kristine will show an acrylic on paper and fabric titled Untitled Memory. Bonnie presents her work in Fiber Arts titled Oh, the Fifties!
Marie LaPrade’s photograph is untitled. Her color image in reds and blues invites a viewer’s response and interpretation.

Founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association (CAA), WCA is a national member organization unique in its multi-disciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students /educators, and museum professionals. The mission of the Women's Caucus for Art is to expand opportunities and recognition for women in the arts.

About The Coastal Arts League
The Coastal Arts League is a non-profit corporation founded in 1979 to develop and support creative artistic talent in the Coastside Community. The Coastal Arts League maintains a free Museum and a Museum Store to showcase the talent of Coastside artists and art groups. Monthly exhibitions in the Museum may be the work of individual artists or other, regional, art organizations.
