Free Ice Cream Social, Free Screening of ‘Princess and the Frog,’ Dog-Themed Storytime and More!

Where/When: , 299 S. California Ave., Palo Alto. This Friday, Aug. 5, 2-4 p.m.

Why Go: Let your kids explore all the fun of making food in the kitchen—without being the one to have to clean it up! Blossom Birth holds another “Crafty Camp” this Friday and the theme is “Kid Cooks.” Kids age 3-8 will make simple, no-cooking snacks together, learn a little about the food pyramid and sing fun, food-themed songs together. Note—the snacks are not gluten-free or dairy-free,

Pricing: $29. Classes must have a minimum of four children and a maximum of 10, so pre-registration online or by phone at 650-321-2326 is encouraged. Discounts for siblings may be available.

 

ICE CREAM SOCIALS FOR TEENS

Where/When: , 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. Weekly on Wednesdays, 4-5:30 p.m., through Aug. 18.

Why Go: A fun place, where teens can be teens. Children in grades 6-12 are invited to come and enjoy themselves at a free ice cream social for teens each Wednesday afternoon through Aug. 18. Enjoy free ice cream, foos ball, Wii, ping pong, shuffle board and more in the Goldman Teen Center.

Pricing: Free, no membership required!

 

JAPANESE OBON FESTIVAL

Where/When: , 2751 Louis Road. This Sunday, Aug. 7, 5-10 p.m.

Why Go: Expose your family to the culture of another country, and have a great time while you’re at it! The annual Japanese Obon Festival is a truly unique event the whole family can enjoy themselves at, with a carnival, delicious Japanese and American food, and entertainment. It’s a fun way to spend a free Sunday evening in Palo Alto.

SUMMER OUTDOOR MOVIE

Where/When: Stevenson Park, 750 San Pierre Way, Mountain View. This Friday, Aug. 5, 8:30-10 p.m.

Why Go: A fun movie the whole family can enjoy, in the cool outdoors. Unlike taking the kids to a movie at a theater, with the City of Mountain View’s summer outdoor movie series, the kids have a little room to run around in the park if they get antsy, and, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg! Plus, popcorn and other light refreshments are served, at no charge as well! This Friday, enjoy a showing of the Disney animated hit, The Princess and the Frog.

DOG-THEMED STORYTIME

Where/When: Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. This Sunday, Aug. 7, 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Do your kids love dogs, and storytime? Here’s one of the only free kid’s events on the peninsula that combines both of those loves. Kepler’s Books in Menlo Park is hosting a dog-themed storytime for kids this Sunday. Hear all about the adventures of Weiner Dog, from the beloved children’s series. Then, stay, shop for some books or enjoy lunch nearby!
