Why Go: Bring the kids to the Stanford Shopping Center this Saturday for food-related arts and crafts projects, and bring a donation for the local food drive benefiting the local hungry. If you join the Kidgits club (or are already a member), your child will get his or her own apron!

THE TRUTH BEHIND COLLEGE ADMISSIONS

Where/When: , 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. This Sunday, June 26, 2-4 p.m.

Why Go: Are you the parent of a high school-aged child who’s already starting to think—and worry—about getting into college? Insight Education will host this informative seminar at the JCC to teach parents and their children all about the college admissions process, and offer tips for helping students get accepted.

Why Go: Finally, a concert series that’s earlier in the evening, so you can get home in time to get the kids to bed at their normal bedtime! Stanford Shopping Center kicks off its annual Summer Jazz Fest this month. Concerts are weekly on Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m., in the cool summer night air. This week, see a toe-tapping show by the Stanford Jazz Faculty All-Stars—this marks their 40th anniversary! Bring the whole family.

PALO ALTO YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE SIGN-UPS

Where/When: , 600 E. Meadow Dr., Palo Alto. Ongoing.

Why Go: The Youth Volleyball League is now taking sign-ups for the fall season, and if you register now, you get a discount! The league is for both boys and girls, ages 7-15. There are four divisions: ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15. This eight-week program teaches the fundamentals of volleyball such as serving, passing, setting, spiking, blocking and playing the game. The Youth Volleyball League provides a low pressure, structured and fun environment, where kids excel in the sport of volleyball. Every child will have a chance to learn and play volleyball, under the motto, “Every Child Plays.” All games and practices are held at Mitchell Park, while registration for this program can be done online at the link above, or you can request a registration form by calling the National Office at 1-888-988-7985.

Pricing: $125 before July 1. The price goes up $20 on Aug. 1 and another $20 on Sept. 1.

 

CHILDREN’S MOVIE NIGHT: “TANGLED”

Where/When: Atherton Library, 2 Dinkelspiel Station Lane, Atherton. This Friday, June 24, 7-8:45 p.m.

Why Go: The Friends of the Atherton Library hosts a family-friendly movie night each Friday night. This week, see the recent Disney hit, “Tangled,” telling the story of Rapunzel! The doors open at 6:45 p.m.
