Why Go: Father’s House Church hosts an outdoor family event of live music and skits put on by local churches and youth groups. Bring a picnic and enjoy the sunshine!

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME

Where/When: , 4050 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Weekly on Fridays, 11-11:30 a.m.

Why Go: With most preschools out for the summer, you may be wondering what you’re going to do to keep your child entertained Monday through Friday, for the next few months. Here’s an evergreen idea for you—swing by the Mitchell Park Library any Friday morning for storytime, geared to preschool-age children (ages 2-5).

FAMILY TOUR AT THE CANTOR ARTS CENTER

Where/When: at , Lomita Drive and Museum Way. Second Saturday of each month at 3 p.m.

Why Go: If you have slightly older children and want to start exposing them to art and culture, Cantor Arts Center now hosts docent-led tours geared towards whole families with children, on the second Saturday of each month. Learn about each of the museum’s collections, and then stay to explore them on your own if you wish.

SAN MATEO COUNTY FAIR

Where/When: San Mateo County Event Center, 2495 S. Delaware St., San Mateo. June 11-19, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy live entertainment, rides, animal exhibits, carnival games, foods and more, for the whole family!

Pricing: Admission ranges from $4-14 per person.

 

THUMBELINA BALLET

Where/When: , Schultz Cultural Arts Hall, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. This Sunday, June 12 at 6 p.m.

Why Go: Do you have a little girl who dreams of being a ballerina? Or, perhaps you just want to expose the kids to a little culture. The whole family can enjoy Fantasy Dance Studio’s colorful and magical production of the ballet Thumbelina, featuring dancers that range from 4-17 years old. Thumbelina is based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale of a tiny girl who comes to believe that if she follows her heart, nothing is impossible.

Pricing: $20-23 per ticket if it is at least 24 hours in advance of showtime. If it is less than 24 hours to showtime, tickets at the door are $23-25.
