Al Jazeera Buys Al Gore’s SF-based TV Channel
Al Jazeera will move its operations to New York.
San Francisco-based Current TV, cofounded by former Vice President Al Gore, has been sold to Al Jazeera. Operations will be moved from San Francisco to New York.
The most widely-quoted Arab TV channel in the Middle East, Al Jazeera will have instant access to 60 million American homes through the Current acquisition.

Al Jazeera plans to produce 60 percent of programs for the new channel in the United States. The rest will be imported from Al Jazeera’s English-language channel. The channel plans to challenge CNN and other all-news networks.
Al Jazeera is financed by the government of Qatar.
