Big Changes Coming to SamTrans Bus Service on Peninsula & Coast
Nearly half of all SamTrans passengers use the El Camino Real corridor for some part of their bus trip, therefore many of the upcoming service improvements will be focused on ECR routes.

SamTrans is preparing to launch the most comprehensive service changes the agency has undertaken in more than a decade beginning Jan. 26, 2014.
The sweeping changes are the result of a two-year study of the bus service's routes known as the SamTrans Service Plan (SSP). The SSP set SamTrans on a path to improve efficiency, grow ridership and increase reliability by 'doing more of what works, less of what doesn't and trying new things.'

Following that same philosophy SamTrans is now making changes to nearly every route in its system to improve frequency, reliability and make the schedule more "customer-friendly."
Under the heading of trying new things, SamTrans will launch FLX pilot services in San Carlos and Pacifica, local shuttles that will circulate within their respective communities and serve major gathering spots and mainline transit service. These projects came out of collaboration with each of the communities to identify local transportation gaps and develop creative solutions.

The shuttles bear the FLX designation because, while they serve a fixed route, they will have the flexibility to deviate from that route to meet the needs of would-be riders.
