Facebook Reported to Begin Music Streaming Service Outside of US

Service will be powered by the start-up Spotify to allow users to stream music on their Facebook pages.

Once again, Facebook may be reinventing its image.

The social networking site will launch a music streaming service in as little as two weeks through the start-up Spotify, which gives its users access to thousands of free songs online, according to a Forbes report published Wednesday. The new app will either be called “Facebook Music” or “Spotify for Facebook.”

The U.S. is out of luck, though, as the service will initially only be available in countries that use Spotify, such as Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Users will click on a Spotify icon on the edge of their Facebook page and have access to the songs of their choice, which will stream while they are on their page.
