HealthTap Hits 10,000 Doctors

Local startup seeks to democratize health care.

HealthTap’s membership of licensed physicians has , reaching 10,000 doctors, according to HealthTap CEO Ron Gutman.

Less than a year old, the Palo Alto-based startup, , provides patients with free answers from doctors, in addition to other social tools. Those doctors represent 105 specialties from all 50 states.

“Thanks to the contributions of these 10,000 doctors, hundreds of thousands of the most trusted health answers are available immediately to people everywhere, regardless of whether or not they have health insurance or access to care,” said HealthTap CEO Ron Gutman.

The doctors that provide those answers include those trained in some of the nation’s top medical institutions, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and UCSF, and have been published in top journals, such as JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine.

"Whether a doctor is very well known in his community and medical institution, or not yet discovered by colleagues and patients, HealthTap has created a new meritocracy where any exceptional physician can be singled out, by their peers, for their trustworthy, accurate, and helpful answers," said HealthTap Founder and CEO Ron Gutman.
