HP Appoints Three New Board Members

Jim Skinner, Ray Ozzie and Dob Bennett join Board of Directors to help guide Palo Alto company.

Palo Alto-based Hewlett Packard announced Monday the appointment of three new members to its board of directors.

The appointment of Robert R. "Dob" Bennett, former president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Liberty Media Corporation; Raymond E. Ozzie, former chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation and founder of Talko Inc.; and James A. Skinner, former vice chairman and CEO of McDonald's Corporation and current chairman of Walgreen Co., increases the HP board from nine to 12.

These changes could reinvigorate a board whose previous chairman, Raymond J. Lane, resigned in April merely two-weeks after his re-election. The board also insisted that two other members—John Hammergren and G. Kennedy Thompson—to step down. The shake-up arose because of shareholder dissatisfaction with HP's purchase of Autonomy for $8.8 billion, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

Bennett, Ozzie and Skinner will each bring skills that CEO and President Meg Whitman could use to change the company around, according to Tech Crunch.

In particular, Bennett will become a member of the Finance and Investment Committee and the Audit Committees; Ozzie will join the Technology Committee and the Finance and Investment Committee; and Skinner will join the Audit, HR and Compensation, and Nominating and Governance Committees.

"As we move forward with our turnaround, it's a huge benefit to be able to get advice from a board made up of such experienced business and technology leaders," said Whitman.

"For their part, Dob, Ray and Jim have just about seen it all during their careers. I'm very grateful for their support, as well as the ongoing support from all of the directors."
