Patxi's Pizza Opens Second Silicon Valley Location

Patxi's Pizza, which opened in Palo Alto in 2004, is settling into another location in Campbell.

On Monday, Patxi's Chicago Pizza fans will have another venue to satiate their cheesy cravings.

The popular deep dish pizza chain, which opened its original location seven years ago in Palo Alto, is settling into a second Silicon Valley home in Campbell’s Pruneyard. It opened its doors for business at 4 p.m., and will host its official grand opening -- replete with free samples -- next Mon., Nov. 21 from 5 to 6 p.m.

At 3,200 square feet, the Campbell restaurant boasts a larger size, and also comes equipped with breakfast goodies: pastries by Starter Bakery and coffee by Blue Bottle Coffee. It carries the same features as its Palo Alto original: locally-sourced meat and produce, gluten free and soy options and craft brews on tap.

Pronounced ‘Pah-cheese’, the joint was established in Palo Alto in 2004 by William Freeman and Francisco "Patxi" Azpiroz. Azpiroz worked as a senior manager at Zachary’s pizza in Berkeley for 15 years when Bill Freeman approached him with the idea of establishing an “upscale casual, premium pizza restaurant focused on Chicago-style deep pizza,” said Patxi’s communications manager Laiko Bahrs.

The restaurant was a success at its Palo Alto location, and opened five additional branches in San Francisco. Freeman, who has family roots in Campbell, decided to expand to the Pruneyard.

“I’m so excited to be finally opening in Campbell,” stated Freeman in a memo about the opening. “I have deep roots in the Campbell area –my family has farmed land here for a century, and my dad grew up on a walnut and apricot farm on Lawrence Road. So this is a real homecoming for me.”
