Yelp on the way to Palo Alto

The San Francisco-based social networking company will build a satellite office on California Avenue.

Yelp is coming to Palo Alto.

The social networking site will build a satellite office on California Avenue, Palo Alto Online reports.

About 20 to 25 engineers will work out of the 490 California Avenue parcel, the report said. Some engineers are already working there, a Yelp spokeswoman said in the report.

The user review site will aim to lure Silicon Valley engineers  who don't want to travel all the way up the Peninsula to the company's downtown San Francisco headquarters, the report said.

"The objective of opening this office was to find a site with good proximity to the engineering talent pool further down the peninsula and with good commuter access for South and East Bay employees who wish to work closer to their homes in that area," the spokeswoman told Palo Alto Online.

"Palo Alto, on the Caltrain corridor, fits those objectives. The office is within convenient walking distance to a train station, to bus-lines and to numerous local businesses which was also an important consideration for Yelpers."
