ABCs of Vitamin Supplements
Vitamin supplements are just that – supplements. We get most nutrition through the foods we eat in a healthy and balanced diet.
Shelves in stores are lined with vitamins but how important are they in keeping you healthy? Of the three B vitamins, which is the most essential? Should vegetarians take more vitamins than omnivores?
These and many other questions about vitamins are answered in an interesting healthblog post entitled the ABCDEFs of Vitamin Supplements by Ronesh (Ron) Sinha, M.D., an Internal Medicine doctor with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF).
“Vitamins are compounds that are essential for our bodies to function properly. They cannot be made by the human body, and so we need to obtain them through the foods we eat in a healthy and balanced diet,” says Dr. Sinha explains the values and limitations of vitamins in a recent PAMF health blog.
