Christmas Tree Lane Opens Saturday

A tradition since 1940, Christmas Tree Lane is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.

A snowman family, Santa, and plenty of Christmas trees and lights will shine brightly on Fulton Street starting Saturday night and continuing through the end of the month. The residents of Fulton have been transforming their street into Christmas Tree Lane since 1940.

While the colorful decorations have been displayed each year, the lights remained off twice over the decades—in 1942 because of a World War II blackout order, and in 1973 when President Richard Nixon asked Americans to forego Christmas lights because of the Energy Crisis.

Residents turn on the lights nightly from 5 – 11 p.m.

Christmas Tree Lane runs along the 1700 – 1800 blocks of Fulton between Embarcadero Road and Seale Avenue.

Residents recommend that you park your car and stroll down the lane to truly appreciate the decorations.
