City Charges Forward with Electric Cars

Scores of people filled the underground garage at City Hall Tuesday afternoon when Mayor Sid Espinosa and Planning and Transportation Commissioner Arthur Keller drove up in Keller's new Nissan Leaf, according to a report by Palo Alto Online.

The two officials, who advocate the emerging trend of electric vehicles, hosted a brief talk in the garage about the need for electric vehicles in Palo Alto. So far, five new charging stations for electric cars have been installed: two in the top level of the City Hall garage and others at the Bryant Street and Alma Street garages, the report said.

According to the California Energy Commission, Palo Alto could have between 3,000 and 10,000 electric vehicles in the next 10 years.
