Five Bay Area Lottery Tickets Win Big

Five tickets sold in the Bay Area each netted more than $200,000 in Friday's MEGA Millions drawing. The big winners were from Maryland, Illinois and Kansas.

Five players who bought MEGA Millions lottery tickets in the Bay Area - along with 24 other tickets bought in California - won nearly $230,000 each by matching five of six numbers in Friday night's record-setting $640 million draw, according to state lottery officials.

The tickets worth $227,955 each were sold at Sunnyvale's Liquor Tobacco & More on South Mary Avenue, a San Jose 7-Eleven on Blossom Hill Road, Fremont's Fast & Easy Mart on Ardenwood Boulevard, Al's Food & Liquor on Medway Road in San Rafael, and San Francisco's Fox Liquors on Larkin Street, lotto officials said.

The winning numbers for the multistate game were 46-23-38-4-2 and a MEGA number of 23.

The other tickets matching all but the MEGA number were sold across the state, with 11 winning tickets sold in Los Angeles County, three sold in Sacramento County, and two sold in Bakersfield, among other locations.

Because three tickets sold nationally - in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois - did match all six numbers in Friday night's draw, Tuesday night's MEGA Millions jackpot will be worth $12 million.
