Why go: Join the community for three City-sponsored events this Saturday: the Gran Fondo 60-90 mile bike ride or the smaller Echelon Challenge bike loop around downtown at 8 a.m., followed by “Taste of Palo Alto” on Hamilton Avenue and King Plaza from 12p.m. to 6 p.m., where you can sample bites from Palo Alto's local restaurants. Why go: Join the party and be ready to show your best hand. Tickets get you $25 in event chips to play blackjack, craps, or roulette.

Why go: Learn the "Grow Biointensive" method for composting at home, effectively recycling your kitchen scraps and learning to maximize carbon and nitrogen in your compost. Bring a five-gallon bucket of green material to the demonstration to start.
