Why Go: Kick off your long weekend with an MLS game right next door at Stanford stadium. Families invited to tailgate and enjoy pregame entertaiment before the San Jose Earthquakes vs. New York Red Bulls game, which will be followed by fireworks.

Where/When: The Craneway Pavilion 1414 Harbour Way S, Richmond; Sunday, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Why Go: Enjoy a fireworks extravaganza on the Richmond waterfront, with fantastic views of the San Francisco skyline. The event features fireworks accompaniment from the Oakland East Bay Symphony at 8 p.m. (other local music groups will perform beforehand).

Why Go: Taste an array of chili dishes prepared by teams of chefs battling for the chili championship. Music by Johnny Super, Line dancing by Hedy McAdams, DJ Joe Sheldon, kids activities and food. Chili tasting starts at 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Join the San Francisco Symphony in celebrating Independence Day as they accompany fireworks at the Shoreline Amphiteatre with a number of classical favorites, from Leonard Bernstein to John Williams. Don't forget a blanket if you purchase lawn seats!

Why Go: Deck your family out in red, white and blue and bring your trikes, scooters and skates for this traditional parade celebration! Meet at Town Hall and march to Gardner Bullis School--parade starts at 10 a.m.
