Lady Washington Makes an Appearance in Half Moon Bay

The tall ship stops first in Pillar Point Harbor on its 2012-13 California coastal tour.

On Friday, the Lady Washington from Seaport Landing, a 25-acre former industrial property located on the south shore of the Chehalis River in Aberdeen, Wash., returns to Pillar Point Harbor, opening the decks to the public for tours and tall ship excursions on the Pacific Ocean.

Launched in 1989, the brig Lady Washington is a working replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged ships to explore the west coast of North America. Owned and operated by the non-profit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, she travels to more than a dozen California ports annually to deliver living history educational programs to young people and adults.

The Lady Washington makes its first coastal California stop on its 2012-2013 tour in Half Moon Bay before heading to Moss Landing on Nov. 13.

Walk-on tours are a chance for the general public to visit the tall ship that has appeared in several motion pictures, including the 2003 "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and the 1994 "Star Trek: Generations." The ship also appeared in the Oct. 21 "Once Upon A Time" episode titled “The Crocodile,” playing the role of Captain Hook’s vessel, the Jolly Roger.

An Adventure Sail is a three-hour excursion, which includes opportunities for guests to raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, hear maritime stories, and take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting.
