Palo Alto Unemployment at 4.6 Percent

The county rate is 8.7 percent, only slightly higher than the national average.


Jobless numbers in Palo Alto have been virtually unchanged for the entire year. The latest numbers for July, released Friday by the California Employment Development Department, show an unemployment rate of 6.6 percent, or a total of 1500 workers.

In Santa Clara County the rate was 8.7 percent, or a total of 79,600 residents unemployed.

California's unemployment rate hovered at 10.7 percent in July for
the second month in a row. That rate is lower than the 11.9 percent rate seen in the state a year ago, but higher than the U.S. rate of 8.3 percent.

The lowest unemployment rate in the Bay Area is Marin County, with 6.7 percent in July. Solano County, which has the highest unemployment rate
in the Bay Area, stood at 10.3 percent, down slightly from the month before.
