Patch Picks: 5 Ways To Make The Earth A Better Place
Earth Day is Friday. How you gonna get your Earth-game on?
Earth Day is here, and we're in the prime place to celebrate. Palo Alto is one of the most eco-conscious cities in one of the "greenest" regions in the world. What will you do to make the Earth a better place?
1. Recycle what's not obvious
Yes, we know you've heard it time and again: recycle, recycle, recycle. But did you know you can recycle aerosol cans and wine corks—and even packing peanuts? For a full list of unusual recyclables and where to recycle them, check out our "."

3. Save the Bay
This Saturday, Mountain View's REI partners with Save the Bay to clean up the Palo Alto Baylands Natural Preserve, removing invasive plant species and debris from the otherwise beautiful park. 4. Buy local
The Downtown Palo Alto Farmers’ Market doesn't open again until May 14, but that doesn't mean you have to live on pre-packaged processed food until then. Buying local means the food doesn't have to travel as far to get to your kitchen—reducing the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere with every mile of gas. When farmers markets are out of season, order a CSA, or "community supported agriculture" box from a local farm on localharvest.org/csa. The Earth will thank you —and so will the local economy.
5. Bike to work
If you live in Palo Alto, you've seen them—the neon-clad two-wheelers proudly peddling their way around town. Maybe it's your turn to give it a shot, dust off your bicycle, tricycle, unicycle or otherwise (many variations are seen around here), take it for a tune up at at 3001 El Camino Real in Palo Alto, and give it a whirl. Our bike-friendly town is home to many and bikes-only paths. For more information on safe bicycling in Palo Alto, visit the city's website.
