Patch Picks: Mexican Restaurants

Get your spice on with this list of our favorite local Mexican eateries.

1. CLASSY DATE NIGHT

For a classy night out with a date, head to Palo Alto Sol on California Ave. Owners Hector and Helena Sol hail from the Puebla region of central Mexico, a true inspiration for their food. One of our favorite dishes is the Mole Poblano, with sun dried chiles, spices & a dash of chocolate. The restaurant itself features beautiful tiled floors and wooden tables, a bar with fine tequilas, and outdoor seating. Find it at: 408 S California Ave., Palo Alto. Hours: Lunch Monday-Friday, 11 AM - 2 PM Dinner Monday-Sunday, 5 PM - 9 PM

2. DOWNTOWN DESTINATION

This cozy restaurant, which has been family-owned and operated for 16 years, is a neighborhood favorite. We suggest the shrimp cocktail and pozole. Located right in the heart of downtown, this is an easy spot for a quick bite at a reasonable price. Find it at: 800 Emerson St., Palo Alto. Hours: Mon - Wed, 10am - 9pm; Thurs, Fri, 10am - 10pm; Sat, 9am - 10pm

3. NEXT DOOR FAVORITE

Menlo Park's Cafe Del Sol has fajitas worth driving for. Located downtown west of El Camino Real, Cafe Del Sol's Verde Salsa and Fish Tacos are our favorite and highly recommended. Look forward to fresh ingredients, delicious food and a friendly staff! Find it at: 1010 Doyle St., Menlo Park. Hours: Mon - sat, 11am - 2:30pm and 5pm - 10pm; Sun, close.

4. TEX-MEX FAST FOOD

Chipotle Mexican Grill

If Tex-Mex is more your thing, and you're really hungry, grab a Burrito Bowl or straight up burrito with a side order of guacamole at Chipotle on El Camino Real, next to Page Mill Road. The servings are large, and the service fast -- but expect to wait in line during lunch hour! Find it at: 2675 El Camino Real, Palo Alto. Hours: Mon-Sun 11am - 10pm.

5. A BURRITO WALKS INTO A BAR...

Taqueria Azteca

Located inside Antonio's Nut House on California Ave., Taqueria Azteca serves up delicious, authentic Mexican food late into the night -- 12 a.m. Wed-Sat. We recommend trying the enchiladas or just a couple of flavorful chicken tacos. Find it at: 321 S California Ave., Palo Alto. Hours: Mon-Tue 11 am - 9 pm, Wed-Sat 11 am - 12 am, Sun 12 pm - 8 pm.
