Stanford Sends Admission Letters to Class of 2016

Tens of thousands of applicants tested their luck, but only a highly selective group was chosen.

Stanford University sent notification letters to a select group of high school students around the world, the university announced Friday.

The offers of admission to join the Class of 2016 were sent to 2,427 students, of whom 755 were accepted in December through the school’s early action program, according to an announcement from the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

There were 36,631 applications received this year, said Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Richard Shaw. Last year, Stanford received 34,348 applications.

"Stanford has been exceedingly fortunate to attract a simply amazing group of applicants from all over the world," Shaw said. "In our review, we were humbled by the exceptional accomplishments of those candidates who have been admitted, as well as the competitive strength of all of the applicants."

Students who received admission letters have until May 1 to accept their offers.
