Temporary Lane Closures Planned at Dumbarton Bridge Toll Plaza

Workers will be installing a new automated toll collection system over a two week period.

Motorists who use the Dumbarton Bridge may experience occasional delays starting Monday, May 13, when temporary lane changes are made to allow for the installation of a new automated toll collection and accounting system.

According to officials from Caltrans and the Bay Area Toll Authority, a single lane at the toll plaza will be closed each day from 9:30 a.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning to accommodate system upgrades.  This work will begin with toll lane Number 6 on Monday, followed by toll lane Number 5 on Tuesday, toll lane Number 4 on Wednesday, and toll lane Number 3 on Thursday.

Toll lane Number 8 at the far right side of the toll plaza will be closed on Saturday, May 18, from 5 a.m. until Sunday, May 19, at 10 p.m.  Equipment installations will resume Monday, May 20, with the closure of toll lane Number 2 from 9: 30 a.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, and will conclude with the closure of toll lane Number 1 at the far left side of the toll plaza from 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, until 6 a.m. on Wed., May 22.

Following completion of the equipment installation at the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza, contractors working for BATA, in conjunction with Caltrans staff, will be performing similar work in the months ahead at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza.  Workers last month completed the installation of new toll collection equipment at the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge toll plaza.

BATA, which is directed by the same policy board as the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, administers toll revenues from the region's state-owned toll bridges.  MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. Caltrans owns, operates and maintains the state highway system, including seven Bay Area toll bridges.
