Three Train Fatalities in Fremont, Menlo Park, Palo Alto

The deaths happened within less than two hours of each other Saturday on Amtrak and Caltrain tracks.

 

Three people were killed on Bay Area train tracks Saturday within less than two hours of each other, including a man struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Fremont.

Gary Carter, a 47-year-old Fremont resident, was struck and killed by Amtrak train #727, a westbound Capitol Corridor train, around 10:20 a.m., said Danielle Hunter, an Amtrak spokeswoman.

There were no injuries to the train's crew or the approximately 40 passengers on board, Hunter said. The train was delayed by about three hours, and the passengers were ultimately taken by bus to their destination.

The victim in the Menlo Park incident has been identified as Jayne Cox, 27, of Folsom, according to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office.

The identity of the Palo Alto victim has not yet been released, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office.
