Rainy Weekend Forecast for Palo Alto

The rain will become more persistent and consistent Friday night into Saturday, and again Saturday into Sunday.

Anyone in the Bay Area expecting to go outside this weekend should be prepared for wet weather, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

There is a likelihood of light sprinkles as early as Friday night, and the precipitation will be ongoing throughout the weekend, meteorologist Bob Benjamin said.

The rain will become more persistent and consistent on Friday into Saturday, and again Saturday into Sunday, Benjamin said.

It will be heavier in the coastal range, he said. Benjamin said the wettest area will be in the Santa Cruz mountains area, however it isn't anything major.

"It's going to be a decent rain," Benjamin said. "But there won't be a weather advisory ... it's definitely not a significant storm."

In the low-lying areas, Benjamin said there will be about a half inch to an inch of rain; in the mountainous areas, there could be an inch and a half to three inches on the ground.

The brunt of the storm will hit the coastal mountain ranges, he said.

Anyone heading up to the Sierra Mountains can expect some snow from incoming cold fronts, meteorologist Zach Tolby said.

Tolby said by Monday, there is expected to be two feet of snow along the Sierra Crest. In the Lake Tahoe area, there will be a mix of snow and rain, causing for slushy conditions, Tolby said.

"It'll be relatively light," Tolby said. "Nothing we'd consider a major winter storm."
