Annual Members' Exhibit and Contemporary Pakistani Art

Palo Alto, California—The Pacific Art League of Palo Alto
(PAL) will host two new exhibitions, January 10th – 31st,
in its transitional location at 227 Forest Avenue in Palo Alto.

Our annual Members’ Exhibit will feature 40 works by 40
different Pacific Art League member artists. Many of our members are students
or instructors at PAL, so come see what we’re all about! Prize winners will be
selected by Rachel Lazo, art instructor and renown Bay Area Artist. Art works
on display will cover many media including oil and acrylic painting,
watercolors, mixed media, bronze sculpture, photography and monotype printing.

In the Glass Gallery we will be exhibiting the work of several
Pakistani artists presented by Nurali Allana. In the last decade, Pakistan has
seen an unprecedented boom in the field of art, which has resulted in the
number of art galleries growing by tenfold. Many of the artists make simple
abstract scenes by their clever representation of people and animals to show
the struggles and hardships of day to day life.

Mashkoor Raza is a Karachi based artist who is ranked among
the senior most artists in Pakistan. He has set an example in creating
transparency with basic forms of shapes such as squares, triangles and circles
on canvases. He merges those abstract figures with women and horses. Farrukh
Shahab is another very well-known artist who evokes emotional tension and
distress in rugged human faces. Ibne Ali is famous for his ability to create
abstract paintings that are both pulsating and imaginative

In the Craft Gallery, local artist and Pal member Helen Ju
will exhibit her charming and whimsical wire and paper dog sculptures and
printed cards. Helen explores and captures the essence of each dog. Like us, no
two are alike. Each one-of-a-kind piece evolves into its own. In support of
animals, Helen donates a portion of her sales to a local nonprofit animal
shelter. Her exhibition will run through January 31st.
